New Game Page Filter Options
For a more in-depth explanation: http://warlight.net/Forum/Thread.aspx?ThreadID=355. This would allow the player more flexibility in what games show up on their multiplayer page. Instead of being restricted to just Active Games or Games where it's My Turn or the other preset settings, the player can pick and choose exactly what criteria they want to use to show games on their page.

Can there be an option added to review just finished games ?
sometimes the # of active(multiday) games goes down and if i even notice it i have to search through a lot of games to figure out which game just finished.
especiallyin fog-games i like to review what happened exactly during the game, but a while ago i also had game starting and my opponent immediately surrendering(i assume he didn't read the settings very well, something with negative bonuses ) pretty much invisible to me until i actively searched for the game myself manually.
just having the option that whenever a game stops to add "game finished" to the chat would already do the trick ;) -

Fizzer, based on your list of 4 options below I'd like to throw in a view option that I'd love to see: "Games where it is my turn or have unread chat messages and I am not eliminated"
This will eliminate the problem of seeing chat messages in View 6 for games I've declined or where I have been eliminated, and will give me a true list of games that actually require an action from me. View 6 is definitely the best view, but I think this view, which I'm coining View 7, would be even better than view 6! The biggest issue by far is the fact that chats from declined games show up on here. I think that the fact these chats show up is probably the main reason that some people never decline any games and do not take any action on an invitation (essentially waiting for the game to start without them or for the host to remove them.) What sort of begging would it take to implement this?

Why not default the checkboxes to OR? The only current option that uses AND is "Active games AND my state is playing." Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but how can your state be "playing" in an inactive game? So if checkboxes are all OR'd together, checking the "I am playing" box would duplicate that function. No functionality is lost, and quite a bit is gained.
If I'm wrong somehow, I'd still like to see an option for "Games where I am not eliminated or have unread chat messages."

cardsfan04: On the My Games page, click the "Options" button and set the filter to "Active Games."

Most tournaments are multi-day games. So, I have active games 6 and 7 pages back on my multiplayer page. Would be great to be able to see active games in 1 spot, rather than searching for pages.

My solution below isn't all inclusive. It wouldn't allow for something like "Completed Games and Games where it is my turn And games with unread chat messages" but I think it would allow for the vast majority of filters people actually want to use. Thoughts?

Hmm... I see what you mean, and the level of complexity rises a lot the more flexibility you want to be able to offer.
Randy, would this work as a potential solution?
Display a drop down list as you currently have, with options as follows:
1. All Games
2. Active Games
3. Active Games And my state is playing
4. Games where I am not eliminated
5. Games where it is my turn.
6. Only games that show up from my chat filters (or something that allows for the current #5 option to still be an option). In other words, have the drop down list only affect the kind of filters people want to see in terms of the game itself and have no bearing on chat options.
And then have 2 checkboxes representing chat options.
1. And games where I have unread chat messages.
2. Or games where I have unread chat messages. If the person doesn't want to see games with chat messages at all, they can simply not select either chat box.

I had a feeling what Randy said would be an issue, but I think back to the times I've used filters in places like forum searches, and it just seems to be assumed that you want "X and Y and Z" without any "or this" thrown in anywhere.

How come I get chat messages for games whereI declined or was removed? Can that be eliminated?

The problem with just giving check boxes for each option is that there needs to be a way to specify if the conditions should be AND'd together or OR'd together.
For example, the current filters are:
1. Active Games
2. Active Games AND my state is playing
3. Games where it is my turn
4. All Games
5. Games with unread chat
6. Games where it is my turn OR have unread chatYou can break these down into the individual criterias they search on:
A. Game is lobby/distributing/playing/finished
B. My state is playing/eliminated/won/surrendered/etc.
C. It's my turn or not my turn
D. Unread public chat or not
E. Urnead team chat or not
F. Unread private chat or notThe most nieve solution to this problem just lists these criteria with a drop-down next to each. The drop down would have a blank option (meaning that I don't want to search on this criteria) as well as all of the possibilities. It would simply AND each criteria together.
The problem with this is it doesn't give the ability to do searches like the one we have now, filter 6, "Games where it is my turn OR have unread chat." That would be impossible, since it's AND'ing together all of the criteria.
If you want to allow this to also support OR's, it gets a lot more complicated. You can't just put an AND/OR checkbox next to each criteria, since then it's ambiguous which critera are being OR'd together.
The ultimate solution to this problem is to allow you to group criteria together into groups of OR'd criteras. You could then AND some of these groups together with other groups, or other single criteria. To also give ultimate flexibility, you need the ability to repeat a single filter options multiple times.
I think you see why this item becomes a ton of work. If all you want is to support AND'ing criteria, that would be doable, but it would eliminate my favorite filter (#6), and I don't like regressions in functionality. This may also be a less flexible solution than what you guys were expecting when you created this item.
I really see four options:
1. Identify what the most-needed filter items are and add a couple more to the existing drop-down.
2. Do the work to get the most flexible grouping AND/OR system with duplicating.
3. Allow just AND'ing criteria, and lose filter #6
4. Have a single checkbox that causes all criteria to be AND'd or OR'd, but no mixing allowed, and no duplicating of criteria allowed. -

I feel like the current setup of having preset drop-down options doesn't work best for the games or tournament lists as there are too many potentially useful/desirable combinations. I think a way to just click on a box for each of the desired parameters would work a bit better. That way people can restrict their lists however they see fit and don't rely on Randy setting up the filter combos into a long list to accomodate different people. Guess the only issue is being able to display those parameters with their accompanying boxes in as little space as possible.
